Deaconess Christine White, 91 of Youngstown, OH, transitioned peacefully to eternal life on Sunday, May 18, 2024, surrounded by family.
Christine White was born on March 21,1933, in Birmingham, Alabama. She was the daughter of Roosevelt and Hattie Peterson who preceded her in death along with her siblings Roosevelt Peterson Jr., Lillie Peterson Sharp and Albert H. Peterson.
Christine was a graduate of Miles College in Birmingham, Alabama, where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree and certification in both Elementary and Secondary Education. She also did graduate studies at Kent State and Youngstown State Universities, receiving a second bachelor’s degree. She taught in the Youngstown City School system for over 30 years and retired in 1991. Over the years she was involved in several Church and community organizations. She was also a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority as well as the Youngstown Business and Professional Women's organization.
Throughout her life, Christine showed love, kindness, and support to all she knew. As an avid proponent of education, she loved teaching Sunday School, attending noon-day prayer service and Bible Study. She served the Lord in other capacities including: Deaconess, Senior Choir and Adult Choral Ensemble member, Honored Past President of the Missionary Society, Interfaith Church Women United, Canton/ Warren/ Youngstown Sub-District Women's Auxiliary, Northeastern Ohio Baptist District Association Women's Auxiliary, Sunday School superintendent, Vacation Bible School principal, and Chairperson of Christian education.
She leaves to mourn her passing yet celebrate her victory: her loving husband Deacon James L. White, her son Warren (Wanda) L. White, her sister, Helen Peterson Cooper, granddaughter Andrea White, and bonus granddaughters Jessica and Jasmine Hillian. Additionally, she leaves her sister-in love Della (Ernest) Jones, nephews Anthony (Yvette) Hardy, Clifton (Vanessa) White and niece Adrienne (Damon) Bryd, a cadre of cousins and long-time special friends; Lovie Mickel, Denise Warren, and Bina McCary.
Christine’s favorite scripture was Psalm 91:2, “I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in Him will I trust.”
The Celebration of Life services to honor Christine White's endearing legacy will be held Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at Third Baptist Church, 1177 Parkhill Drive in Youngstown, the public viewing & family visitation will take place at 10:00 am and official services to proceed at 11:00 am, with Rev. Dr. Sean Tucker serving as the celebrant.

At the conclusion of the services, Deaconess White will be interred at the Tod Homestead Cemetery. With elegance, dignity and wisdom, she continues to leave a profound impact on the lives she touched.
