Mother Ora Earline Thompson Oglesby’s abundant and fulfilled life peacefully ended late Monday, January 8th at St. Thomas West Hospital.
Earline was born December 10, 1927 in Statesville, TN to the late Ben and Willie Pearl Thompson. Born and raised in Wilson County, Earline accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age at Smithfork Statesville Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully as a committed Usher and member of the Mother Board. She was a dedicated cafeteria worker with Metro Nashville Public Schools for over 40 years. During this time she became famous for her stellar sugar cookie baking skills. She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Charles F. Oglesby, Sr. and from this union they were blessed with Shirley Ann Thomas, Charles Oglesby, Jr., Barbara Oglesby and Benjamin Oglesby.
Through the years, she found happiness in moments spent preparing Sunday dinner for her family, cheering for the Tennessee Titans, relishing family reunions, solving her seek-a-word puzzles and inviting friends and family to sit and play a hand of spades. Loved by all who crossed her path, she lived life to the fullest and was known for embracing joy and celebrating family accomplishments.
She was preceded in death by siblings Fannie Louise Webb, Ben H. Thompson, Jr., Earl Dean Thompson, Howard Bruce Thompson, Charles Richard Thompson and children Barbara Oglesby and Benjamin Oglesby.
Her memory will be cherished by sisters Dorothy Dean Seay, Rose Ellen Perkins, Pearlie May Lawrence and brothers Cidney Jerry Thompson, John Robert Thompson, and Ollie Wilson Thompson. Her legacy will continue with children Shirley Ann Thomas, and Charles Oglesby, Jr., grandchildren Carlos Lamont Oglesby (Angelina), Paul Steven Lajuan Oglesby (Dara), Jonathan Andrew Thomas, Alysha Jonae Frierson (Trey), Brooke Ashley Thompson (D’Juan), great grandchildren Krista, Deonta, Paris, Alexis, Akira, Sydney, Asia, Tre, Isaiah, Alyssa, Thaddeus Areya, Brianna, Aliyah, Jaden, Peyton and Cairo, great great granddaughters, Charli and Nova and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.
