Marlene Lenette Jordan Killian was born on March 9, 1938, in Watkinsville, Georgia, to Vernard Debue and Sebelle Hill Jordan. She transitioned to eternal rest on September 23, 2023. She is predeceased by her husband, Alfred M. Killian, her parents, Vernard and Sebelle Jordan, and her brother, Calvin Laverne Jordan.
Marlene graduated from Rosenwald High School in Oconee County, Georgia, and Fort Valley State College with a bachelorโs degree in early education.
While Marlene was a long-term resident of Athens, over the course of her life, she also lived in Oakland, California; Boston, Massachusetts; and Connecticut. She retired from the Clarke County School District in 1994 after serving more than 30 years in education. Killian spent much of her career as the librarian and media specialist at Hilsman Middle School.
Marlene was an active member at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Watkinsville and also attended Ebenezer Baptist Church West in Athens.
Marlene leaves to cherish her memory two children, Kevin Killian and Charisse Richardson (David); one sister, Evelyn Boynton (Asa); two brothers, Frankie Jordan (Janet) and Johnny Jordan (Elaine); three grandchildren; and one brother-in-law, Clarence Killian.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Watkinsville, GA with interment in Evergreen Memorial Park, Athens, GA.
Viewing will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Jackson-McWhorter Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
