Ms. Janet Joyce Akins
A Homegoing Celebration of Life will be held for Ms. Janet Joyce Akins on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Service will be held at Faith Temple Missionary Baptist Church, 2916 Orient Road, Tampa, Florida 33619, Reverend Dr. Joe S. Hardie, Pastor with Reverend James Crews, Pastor Pleasant Chapel A.M.E. Church, Tampa, officiating.
Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Ms. Janet Joyce Akins was born at the “Lily White Hospital” in Tampa Florida on October 05, 1945, to the parents of Bobby Bass and Mary Hall (both deceased). She attended Middleton High School in Tampa, Florida. She was employed and worked for many years at the University of South Florida “Environmental Services Department” (Fontana Hall). Janet also worked at “Ybor Healthcare Nursing Home” until her retirement. She was known for her outstanding personality and uplifting spirit, both to the patients and staff members. Her sweet smile brought hope and cheer, as well as a sense of assurance to everyone that encountered her.
Janet was a loving person and chose to see the good in everyone. She was loved by the community and would often gladly open her home and kitchen to those who were hungry or in need of shelter. She had a genuine love for humanity and all people. She also had a love for animals. Janet’s love for the Lord was instilled in her at an early age. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and joined “Pleasant Chapel AME Church led by Pastor James Crews. She enjoyed family gatherings, but mostly spending time with her family and friends, that brought her so much life and joy. She was a very loyal, devoted, and loving mother to all her children.
She was preceded in death by her (son) Reginald Bogan and (brother) Ronald Rhanes and (brother) Simeon Rhanes.
She leaves to celebrate her legacy and cherish her loving memories, her beloved daughter, Valerie Bass, her beloved sons, Ernest Bogan, Anthony Bogan, and Keith Bogan.
Her beloved sisters, Betty Suarez (Frank), Linda Robinson (Troy), her beloved brothers, Melvin Rhanes (Carrie), Claude Rhanes (Gloria), and brother Donald Rhanes. And a host of loving grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 4 great, great grandchildren, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and Wanda Owens (adopted daughter) and family, the Williams family, the Grant family, Harriet Zachery and family, Henrietta Bell (friend) of many years, and a host of other sorrowing relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 8, 2023, 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Faith Temple Missionary Baptist Church, 2916 Orient Road, Tampa, Florida 33619.
