May God bless the family of Gilbert Hill. I shall never forget the volunteer hours he put in weekly with Communities and Schools. He worked hard to support our youth in our community. We had days of joy as we saw the success that he had on youth. He was sent by God to make a difference in this world and he did just that. We're grateful for his life. Blessings, Theresa Shaw

My friend Gilbert I will miss dearly. I remember when our children was in elementary school together at Baskerville School and I was PTO President and we worked together with other families to replace the curtains in the gym/auditorm. We accomplished the task but was hard work. Gilbert loved to cook, love a garden and would give vegetables to anyone that wanted or needed some. He even brought corn to me and my coworkers. He was definite a selfless person. My deepest condolences go out the Hill family especially his mother. The last time I saw Gilbert I was having lunch with a coworker and he insisted on paying I didn't want too...his mother stated let him do it because he wants too she said he gets pleasure doing things for people. Thank you my friend for our time together. May God wrap his loving arms around the Hill family during this time of sorrow. Sarah (Arrington) Harrison
Even though we grew up less than 10 miles apart we didn't meet until our first day of college at North Carolina Central University. I thank God for giving me such a special friend to share so many different experiences with during this 45 year relationship which at times had us as thick thieves and as close as brotherrs. Gilbert was such a sharp, gifted, hard working, determined brother with a heart of gold for the people and causes that he believed in. He will always be greatly loved, surely missed and never forgotten!! James Sherrod
Ecclesiastes 7:1 KJV [1] A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one's birth. It is with our deepest sympathy and condolences that we share in your loss of a great Man and Friend. Gilbert was indeed friendly and showed himself in just that way. He touched everyone that he came into contact with. This Good Name will live forevermore. May God wash your hearts and minds of pain and sorrow and set this matter righteously in you all. Pastor Melvin Davis and Family
Hill was a wonderful neighbor on Park Avenue. My Mother, sister, brother, and I dearly loved him. He was such a kind gentleman. He would give us collards, squash, and other vegetables from his garden. I will not forget when I was staying with Mother and cooked some chitterlings, he said I want some. I gave him a small bowl full because I knew he nor I needed any. He sat on the stoop and enjoyed himself. We will not forget him. I know he is Resting in Peace. Gwen Wigen (Baby Ruth's daughter)
