Tonnie Lee Sanders was born in Dothan, Alabama on January 30, 1943, to Ulices and Louise Sanders. He grew up and attended school in his birthplace and gave his life to Christ at an early age at St Walden Baptist Church in rural Dothan. In his teenage years, Tonnie had such fond memories of his first job working at the dairy on Hodgesville Road where he developed a strong work ethic.

As a young adult, Tonnie moved to Norwalk, CT to work in a major leather factory in 1960. He later joined Calvary Baptist Church in South Norwalk where he served as a faithful member on the Usher Board for 35 years. In 1975, he married Cora L. Joseph, and they were married for 41 years. In 1999, the couple moved to Robersonville, NC where Cora passed away in February 2016. After her passing, Tonnie retired in Rockledge, FL.

Tonnie Lee Sanders, 80 of Rockledge, FL passed away on Monday, September 4, 2023. He was preceded in death by his only child, Anthony “Tony” Danzey and his father and mother, Ulices & Louise Sanders; three brothers Robert “Bobby” Sanders, Marion Sanders, and Henry Sanders.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his daughter-in-law Tracey Danzey and grandson Tanner Danzey of West Haven, CT; two granddaughters, Nicole “Nikki” Wooten, Charlotte, NC and Netania, Snellville, GA; a great grandson Caleb, Charlotte, NC; three sisters, Min. Katie Granger, Dothan, AL, Lanette Sanders (Lotus) Hamilton, Rockledge, FL, and Joan Sanders, Lynwood, CA; three brothers, Jimmie Lee Sanders, West Palm Beach, FL; Willie Earl Sanders, Starke, FL, and Rev. Donald (Tracey) Sanders, Moseley, VA; four aunts, Para Lee (Jesse Lee-deceased) Ward, Daytona Beach, FL; Inez “Ray” (Henry-deceased) Sanders, Opa Locka, FL; Bernice “Sarah” (Willis-deceased) Sanders, Cleveland, OH, and Mable (Roosevelt “Jack”) Sanders, Miami Gardens, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, other cousins, friends, and neighbors.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Horace Williams Mortuary, 1457 E. Main Street, Dothan, AL.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at at Horace Williams Mortuary, 1457 E. Main Street, Dothan, AL. Interment immediately followed at Gates of Heaven Cemetery, 2106 Starling Rd., Dothan, AL.
