I am just learning of LeRoy's passing. I was a client of both LeRoy and Annette at Thorpe's in the early 90's before moving away. I have very fond memories of Leroy joking with Mr. Thorpe. And Mr. Thorpe would respond "Skank! I think I'm gonna drive to New York city!" Rest easy McKnight! Scottie Harris

To Annette, my classmate and friend. Words cannot express how painful it is to think of Leroy's passing. My children, Randall, Andre, II and Adrian all are in shock that he is gone. Who will I have to give me the 411 on politics? LOL He will be truly missed! We love you! Elaine and Family!
Thorpes Barbershop was my barber for over 15 years. My fondest memories of the shop begin with the owner Mr. Thorpe (RIP) and how he would always sing " there's an old spinning wheel" Leroy would always mess with Mr. Thorpe ,discuss various topics from politics, to current events , sports, and business. Gotta appreciate Mrs Annette who would ensure young folks showed respect by addressing her with " yes or yes mam instead of "huh". The old school values are timeless and I so wish this generation received it. Leroy was skilled, efficient, and an excellent barber. If you ever saw him outside of the shop, he was cool, clean, and always spoke. I moved to Charlotte in 2011 but my hometown is Durham. Next time I'm home I plan to drop by there just for nostalgia purposes. Rest in Peace Leroy. This will forever be my childhood barbershop.
To Annette and the McKnight family, I am praying for your comfort and peace. Over the last twenty years you and Leroy have become family. Please let me know how I can be of assistance. Avis Artis
Rest, my brother. You did some pretty work while on this earth. I will miss your humor and gentle spirit. It's only been about 25 years since I met you and Annette. What a blessing to my life! During these troubling times, I know God called a humor heavy-hitter to keep heaven a joyful place. I hope I'll see you on the other side so we can laugh together once again. Love, Candice D. Brown

I started going to Thorpe's Barbershop since 2001 as a Freshman at NCCU University. Mr. Leroy and I always talked about movies, tv shows , or what was going on in the news. I am forever grateful for all the great haircuts and service he provided. He was a great man and will be deeply missed. - Greg Clemmons
Sending prayers of comfort and strength to Mrs. Annette and the Mcknight Family. Mr. Leroy was one of a kind and he words of wisdom and knowledge will forever be in my heart. I always looked forward to going to the barbershop because not only did I leave with a haircut, but with a new history lesson, a money management lesson, a new way to look at politics. He was the best and I will forever remember him. Daunte' Marrow
Dear McKnight Family, you have my prayers during your time of grief. I rode by the barbershop just a few weeks ago for old-time sakes. My grandma started taking me to my haircut when I was a child, and I will always cherish those moments, as I grew up and became a man I would be one of the first in line early Saturday mornings. Thank you Ms. Annette and Mr. LeRoy for making sure my grandmother and I were always straight!

I started visiting Thorpe's Barber Shop several years ago. Leroy and his lovely wife Annette maintained a very respectable business. LeRoy had his opinions relating to many topics,as well as others in the shop. In spite of each of our different opinions, LeRoy always greeted me in a kind and respectful manner. He was not shy about his faith and I believe he was at peace. LeRoy will be missed. Rest In Peace
Mr. Leroy was a wonderful man. I enjoyed visiting and talking with him each time he cut my hair. He will be greatly missed. Thank you Mr. Leroy for your many haircuts over the years.
To my dear friend/sister I am so sorry for your loss of husband. He was a very kind and loving person an he knows how to make us right, so rest easy Mr. Leroy!
As a single mother with a son, I was a little nervous and scared going into a barber shop. I remember going in and seing 3 barbers. Mr. Leroy was the second chair. We walked in and every one was talking. He looked over at us and smiled and said have a seat. For all the years we went there the smile, laugh and Mr. Leroy's opinion's never changed. What I treasure is that nobody was safe. I remember, the day, I was "called out", I was so happy, we went back and forth. No matter how long between visits, he spoke to me and was genuinely interested in what I said to say. I honor him today because he made everyone feel relevant and special. I appreciate you also as the roll model to not only my son, my nephew and great nephew all had the pleasure of getting first hair cuts at the barber shop. My son and I cried and laughed as we remembered our time spent with you. Mostly laughed. Ms. Annette, I pray you feel Gods love, presence, and strength from all who not only loved Mr. Leroy, but Love you.
I must say that McKnight was a barrel of laughs for those of you that went to Thrope's Barber shop to get hair cut knows just what I'm talking about, at Thrope's LeRoy discussed a number of things all was a learning experience. Leroy was a great barber and will be missed by many. Rest easy MCKNIGHT will see you again on the other side Renee Daniels-Fulton
