Frances Lucille Bailey Bumpass sadly departed this earth on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at Duke Regional Hospital in Durham, NC. after a brief illness. Frances was born on November 8, 1937 to the late Baxter Bailey, Sr. and the late Florence Richards Bailey of Rougemont, NC.
After graduating from the Durham County schools, Frances worked as a housekeeper for several local families before becoming employed by Duke University Health System, where she remained for 35 years.
In 1995, Frances retired and spent her time helping her daughters raise her grandchildren, working in the church, and attending chapter and temple meetings, doing word search puzzles, coloring in the Happy Color app, and her favorite pastime—talking on the phone.
She was a wonderful mother, a loving wife who was always there when we needed her. She had many friends and was a well-loved member of Salome Temple#704 of the Improved Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks of the World, and shenandoah chapter #661 of the Order of Eastern Stars. She was also a faithful member of New Harris Grove AME Church Rougemont, NC, 808 Bill Poole Road, Rougemont NC 27572.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, John, Willie, and June Bailey all of Durham and one sister, Bertha (Robert) Bowden of Alamance County.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband of 53 years, Lebbie Bumpass, two daughters—Patricia Bumpass, and Sandra Bumpass, all of the home. One stepson, John Clayton of Durham, two grandsons—Taylor Satterwhite and Cameron Williams also of the home and one granddaughter—Bailey Wiley, who resides in Charlotte, NC. Two sisters, Mattie Bradley, and Helen Trotter of Rougemont and one brother George Bailey (Nancy) also of Rougemont, NC. and a host of nieces, nephews, and many relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Autism Society of North Carolina or The American Heart Association.
Viewing service will be held at Holloway Memorial Funeral Home, 2502 NC Hwy 55, Durham, NC on Thursday, November 2, 2023 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm.

Condolences to the Bumpass family from Curt and Cecillia Mackey. Frances was one of Peggy's dearest friends, so we helped one another not miss her as much when we would chat and share memories.
