Mrs. Fannie Louise Walker Gongs Wilson was born to the late Tom Walker and Janie Mercer; on June 26th, 1945, in Durham, NC, the 3rd of 3 children. She would later depart this world on October 2nd, 2022, peacefully at Duke Regional. Fannie grew up in Durham, NC, receiving an education through the Durham Public School System. She attended and graduated from Hillside High School Class of 1963. She was employed at Durham Regional Hospital as a Health Unit Coordinator and retired in 2013. Later attending Durham Tech, she obtained her CNA certification practicing at Croasdaile Village Nursing Home. During her retirement years, she enjoyed plenty of traveling to her second home Las Vegas. In the late 1980’s Fannie met Oliver L. Wilson and married on June 2nd, 1990. She enjoyed baking, traveling, eating out, and shopping. Fannie was well known for her famous cakes and pies. She also loved and cherished her time with her children and grandchildren. Fannie grew up in Mount Calvary Christ Church; up until adulthood, she was a member of Union Baptist Church, where she gained her spiritual foundation by serving on the usher board. She was awarded Mother of Year due to her super mom capabilities. In her later years, she continued her faith by attending Ebenezer Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her brothers, Norman Diggs and James Diggs. She is survived by her husband, Oliver L. Wilson, and 3 children Tawanda Renea Gongs (DC), Thomas Reginald Gongs (Cindy), and Tamisha Rashanda Gongs, 7 Granddaughters, 5 Grandsons, 12 great-grandchildren, along with a host of Nieces and Nephews. Lastly, a question from Fannie. What does a true friend mean? Does it mean someone you can count on even in sickness or someone who just says I hope you feel better and never hears anything from them? Or is it someone that will check on you at least once a week to see how you are doing? Of course, it can go both ways, but I can honestly say I have had some true friends in my lifetime, even though we may not communicate like we used to. Everyone, think about what a true friend means to you.
Graveside service will be held at Glennview Memorial Park on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at 10:00 AM.

To Family and Friends of Fannie, it was such a pleasure to work with her. She was the most knowledgeable and most professional person to work with. She always had her crisp white lab coat and a pocket protector full of pens. She was so highly respected. The Blue Candle for a Carolina fan. The snazzy dressing lady down to her Carolina shoes. Praying for comfort for her loved ones. Pauline Stroud
