Mr. Christopher Wayne Harris, most notably known as Chris, departed this life to be with his Lord and Savior on May 29, 2023. He was born to the late Thomas Harris and Virginia Harris on December 19, 1960.
Chris was born and raised in Durham, NC. He was educated in the Durham Public Schools system, graduating from Jordan High School in 1979. Chris was an entrepreneur, as he previously owned and operated a daycare facility, cleaning service, lawncare service and moving company. He was a member of Victory Missionary Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, OK. He was a man of faith and served in his home church and local community by way of his food ministry and handyman services.
Chris was such a happy and joyful person. He was known for being the life of the party and he was always making sure everyone was having a good time. If you were having a bad day, Chris could immediately make you feel better by telling jokes or one of his life stories from “back in the day”. Because of his jovial, happy personality, Chris never met a stranger. He could and would talk to anyone no matter where he was or what he was doing. He was truly a joy to be around, and someone you could talk to if you needed an unbiased listening ear. Chris suffered from sickle cell disease since he was a child. Despite his condition, he never complained and lived his life to the fullest. He spent most of his time doing what he loved most, traveling with his wife to the beach and spending time with his family.
He leaves to cherish and mourn his loss, his loving wife of 12 years, Mary R. Harris; four children, Kintashia Harris-Gillespie (Raheem), Christopher Harris II (Nina), Virginia Harris, Zachary Harris; three bonus daughters, Crystal Brown (Maurice), Brandi Minor (James), Ashley Tedder (Dwight); seventeen grandchildren, Javyn Gillespie, Faith Gillespie, Lauren Harris, Lovleigh Gillespie, Empress Gillespie, Orion Lipscomb, Keshaun Sloan, Kiara Sloan, Kaylee Grimmage, Jerome Richardson, Jr., Preston Minor, Grayson Tedder, Maurice Brown, Jr., DeMarreau Waterman, Donnovan Brown, Meyah Brown and Miyah Brown; three special brothers, Bennie Hines, James Hayes, and Aaron Tharrington; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. His brother, Rodney Harris, preceded him in death.
Memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at 1:00 pm, Holloway Memorial Funeral Home Inc. 2502 NC Hwy 55, Durham, NC.
All acts of kindness are appreciated during this difficult time.

Growing up on Kirby Street, some of my fondest memories were being with friends and having the pleasure to have wonderful neighbors that live on that street. Chris Harris was one of those neighbors. He was like a brother to me. We hung out played football basketball and rode motorbikes. Most of all, he was a person that didn't mind sharing his thoughts. I remember his kindness and willingness to lend a helping hand for those who need it. To the Harris family, I feel your loss also. Know that God has a fighter with him, a true warrior. Love you bro.
