Obituary For Mrs. Lillie C. Heyward

It is with deepest sympathy that we announce the passing of the late:

Lillie Catherine McBurse Heyward, affectionately known as Lillie C. was born in Pulaski County, GA to the late Sudie Mae Blackshear Roberson and the late Lonnie McBurse on February 03, 1929. Lillie moved to New York one day after graduating high school and attended and graduated from Metropolitan College of New York where she became a Registered Nurse. After many years in NYC, Lillie moved back to her home state of Georgia in 1982 and made Decatur her home. She served as a nurse there at Grady Memorial Hospital for many years.

Lillie accepted Christ at an early age and as a youth was a member of the Mt. Aire Baptist Church of Pulaski County. Lillie later joined the Big Miller Grove Baptist Church and choir of Lithonia, GA where she served faithfully until her health failed.

Lillie transitioned to be with the Lord on May 18, 2022, and was preceded in death by her mother, Sudie M. Roberson and her only son Artis L. Heyward.

She leaves to cherish a daughter-in-law, Margaret Heyward of Bronx, NY; step-son, Nathaniel Blackshear of Toledo, OH; special cousins, Burnie Holt of Pineview, GA and Ciretha (Lonnie) Harris of Hinesville, GA whom she affectionately called “niecie”; special friends and neighbors, Patricia (James) Murray of Decatur, GA; and a host of other cousins and sorrowing friends.

Celebration of Life will take place on Monday, May 23, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Meadows Mortuary Chapel - 419 Flat Shoal Avenue South East, Atlanta Georgia 30316. For more information or directions, please call 404 522-7478.

Interment will follow in the Kennedy Cemetery - Atlanta Georgia.
