On Saturday, January 5, 2024, William H. “Merk” Wright, Jr. 77, of Parkway Dr., Martinsville, VA transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life at SOVAH Health-Martinsville. Born in Martinsville, VA on February 13, 1946, to William H. Wright, Sr., and Lillian Redd Wright. In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by a daughter, Christina Draper; sister, Wilhelmina Wright Ananias and brother, Kenneth Wright, Sr.
William attended Meadow View A.M.E. Church and was a United States Air Force veteran. He was a graduate of George Washington Carver High School class of 1964. After high school, William went on to further his education by receiving an associate degree from Patrick Henry Community College. He retired from Martinsville Produce as a delivery driver.
William leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Tonya Nicole Hairston of Knoxville, TN; one sister, Sandra Hairston (William A.) of Fieldale, VA; one brother, Earl C. Wright (Donna) of Martinsville; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at 12 noon at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville, VA with Pastor Robin Hopkins, Eulogist. The burial will follow at Meadow Christian Church Cemetery, 1140 Meadowood Trail, Martinsville, VA. A public viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Other times, the family will be receiving friends at the home of his brother, Earl C. Wright, 765 Parkway Dr., Martinsville, VA beginning on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.
