Obituary For William D. Thomas

William “Ring Eye” D. Thomas, 91, of Clearview Dr., Martinsville, VA departed this life on Sunday, July 17, 2023, at SOVAH Health Martinsville, VA. He was born March 22, 1932, to the late Wesley Thomas and Pearl Price Thomas in Virginia.

William was proceeded in death by his first wife, Viola Hairston Thomas; two brothers, John Henry Thomas, and George Lee Thomas; and two sisters Elbert Cook and Mary Wright.

William worked for Grey & Son’s Construction in Baltimore, MD for many years.

Those left behind to cherish his memory include: his wife, Leeora Thomas of Baltimore, MD; two sons, David Lee Thomas and Nickolas William Thomas both of Baltimore, MD; two daughters, Eleanor Thomas of Martinsville, VA and Gloria L. Thomas of Baltimore, MD; two sisters, Helen Wright of Rocky Mount, VA and Elsie Cook of Martinsville, VA; two grandchildren, Shaleta “Joy” (Aaron) Smith and Jordan Thomas; two great grandchildren, Christopher “CJ” Talley and Symphany Talley; his caregiver, Vernette Redd; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A visitation will take place Friday, July 21, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. until the time of his funeral at 12 noon at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home, with Bishop Lorenzo Hall, presiding. The burial will follow at Carver Memorial Garden. A public viewing will be held Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Hairston Funeral Home from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. The family will receive friends at his granddaughter’s residence, 1271 Lanier Rd, Martinsville, VA at all other times.
