Obituary For Virginia E. "Gin" Roberts
On Saturday, October 19, 2024, Virginia E. “Gin” Roberts, 94, of Banks Rd., Martinsville transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life at SOVAH Health-Martinsville. She was the second child born to the late Jacob “Jake” Hairston and Nora Fawlks Hairston on January 11, 1930.
In addition to her parents, Virginia “Gin” was preceded in death by her husband, Alvah Roberts, Jr.; two daughters, Barbara Chisholm, and a child that died at birth; four sisters, Mary “Sis” Gravely, Juanita Mahan, Ella Bea Staples and Harriet Flood; one brother, Jacob “Jake” Hairston, Jr.
Virginia “Gin", "Timer-Granny Gin" as she was affectionately called by her family and friends, attended Greater New Bethel Apostolic Church, and was a retired domestic worker.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Evelyn D. “Lois” Roberts, Priscilla “Pat” Roberts, and Billy Roberts; one sister, Barbara Carter; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Yvonne Roberts and Sally Roberts; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A visitation service will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. with the funeral service at 2 p.m. at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home with Pastor Lisa Little, Eulogist. Interment will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens, 869 Parkway Dr., Martinsville, VA.
A public viewing will be held on Friday, October 25, 25 at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette S., Martinsville, VA. Other times, the family will receive friends at the residence, 902 Banks Rd., Martinsville, VA. Live streaming of the funeral service will be available at Hairston Funeral Home live via Facebook.
