On Thursday, July 8, 2021, God in His Infinite Wisdom saw fit to call from labor to reward the soul of Patricia E. Hairston Johnson. Born in Henry County, VA on November 10, 1939, the daughter of the late Reverend James Caesar Hairston and the late Lubertha Tate Hairston.
In addition to her parents, Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Johnson; five sisters, Dora Lee Hairston, Lillie Belle Moyer, Josephine Hairston, Mamie Esther Hairston, and Lucy Jane Hodge; four brothers, James Willie Hairston, John Andrew Hairston, Franklin D. Hairston, and Henry Jack Hairston.
Patricia was a faithful member of Jerusalem Christian Church (DOC) where she was a member of the Christian Women's Fellowship. She was a 1958 graduate of George Washington Carver High School and a 2003 graduate from National Business College. For over 60 years, she was a talented seamstress in the community.
Patricia leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters, Dawn Johnson (Corey) Campbell of Richmond, VA, Shannon Johnson (Aaron) Bowen of Chicago, IL, and Ashley Johnson (Daniel) Brown of Chesapeake, VA; two brothers, Samuel (Mary) Hairston of Preston, VA, and Reverend Joe Lewis Hairston of Martinsville, VA; close nieces, Priscilla Hodge (John) Johnson of Charlottesville, VA, Ethel La'Verne Hodge of Martinsville, VA, Gladys King of Axton, VA, and Reba Childress of Richmond, VA; great-nieces, Amber Hairston of Martinsville, VA, and Priscilla Adair Hodge of Alexandria, VA; nephew, Douglas Wayne Hairston of Martinsville, VA; sisters-in-law, Henrietta Mack of Newark, NJ and Lillian Hairston of Philadelphia, PA; beloved best friends, Christine Jones, Herbert Hairston, and Zelma Barksdale all of Martinsville, VA; daughter-in-love, Sharrika Kent of Martinsville, VA; and a host of other beloved nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July, 12, 2021 at 11 a.m. at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home, with Reverend Robert Smith, Eulogist. Burial will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens. A public viewing will be held on Sunday, July 11, 2021 at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. In accordance with the CDC, a face covering, and social distancing is required. The family will be receiving friends at the home, 227 Clearview Dr., Martinsville, VA. The family asks that you observe social distancing and have a face covering.
