On Wednesday, June 5, 2024, Nathaniel Hairston, Jr., 62, of Oak View Dr., Martinsville, transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke, VA. He was born July 14, 1961, in Martinsville, VA to the late Nathaniel Hairston, Sr., and Thelma Gravely Hairston. In addition to his parents, Nathaniel was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Joe H. and Alice Hairston, and his maternal grandparents, William and Rosa Gravely.
Nathaniel was a 1978 graduate of Fieldale Collinsville High School. After high school, Nathaniel attended Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA. He was a United States Air Force veteran.
Nathaniel was employed at TAD Space for 2 years as Project Supply Manager. He was previously employed by Food Lion Leatherwood crossing in the produce department. He attended First Baptist Church, E. Martinsville at an early age.
Those left to cherish his memory include three sisters, Linda Dillard, Katrina “Dale” Martin, and Carla Hodge (Gary) all of Martinsville, VA; three aunts, Veola Dones of Martinsville, VA, Hattie Ross, and Sophia McAfee both of Detroit, MI; one uncle, Michael Hairston (Carolyn) of Martinsville, VA; three nephews, Wayne Draper (Shalonda) of Martinsville, VA, Brandon Dillard of Blacksburg, VA, and Dominique Hodge (Elizabeth) of Daleville, VA; two great-nieces, Tania Draper of Richmond, VA, and Alyssa Draper of Martinsville, VA; one great- nephew, Zyreak Manns of Bassett, VA; and a host of other relatives, and friends.
A visitation service will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. with the funeral service at 12 noon at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville, VA with Dr. Charles R. Whitfield, Eulogist. Interment will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens, 869 Parkway Dr., Martinsville, VA.
A public viewing will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. the family will be present. Other times, the family will be receiving friends at the home of his nephew and niece-in-law, Wayne & Shalonda Draper, 114 Oak View Dr., Martinsville, VA.
