Shirley Hairston Dillard, 83, of Martinsville, VA, transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life at the home of her daughter and son-in-law. She was born on May 9, 1941, in Martinsville, VA to the late John Matthew Hairston and Thelma Philpott Hairston. In addition to her parents, Mother Dillard was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers.
Mother Dillard was a faithful member of Gethsemane Pentecostal Holiness Church where she served in various capacities. She was the Church Mother, a deaconess, a member of the choir, and a member of the usherβs ministry. Mother Dillard also retired as a supervisor from Bassett Walker with many years of service.
Mother Dillard leaves to cherish her memory her husband, of 67 years, Hezekiah Dillard, of the home; two daughters, Donna D. Brown (Darrell) of Houston, TX; and Debbie D. McGhee (Marion) of Bassett, VA; one son, Jackie R. Dillard (Shirl) of Martinsville, VA; seven grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; one sister, Marion Carter of Martinsville, VA; one brother, Ricky Hairston of Roanoke, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A visitation service will be held on March 6, 2025, at 11:30 am with the funeral service at noon at Gethsemane Pentecostal Holiness Church, 2380 Blackberry Rd, Bassett, VA with Bishop Gordon Warren, Eulogist. Interment will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens, 869 Parkway Dr., Martinsville.
A public viewing will be held on March 5, 2025, at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville between the hours of 1 pm. and 5 pm. Other times, the family will receive friends at the residence, 928 Morgan St. Martinsville. Live streaming of the funeral service will be available at Hairston Funeral Home via Facebook.
