Obituary For Minnie Ruth Morris

Minnie Ruth Morris was born on January 9, 1937, in Martinsville, VA. She was the youngest of four children born to Robert J. Morris and Lucinda Draper Morris. She was baptized and confirmed at a young age at High Street Baptist Church, Martinsville, VA, where she served as an active member until her decline in health prevented her from attending in person. She continued her faith journey by attending the church's online services every Sunday.

On Thursday, June 20, 2024, God whispered her name and Minnie peacefully transitioned from this earthly life at the age of 87.

Minnie was educated in the Martinsville City public school system and graduated from Albert Harris High School in 1955. After graduating high school, Minnie became a wife and the mother of three children: Granita, Pamela and Ricky. She and her family eventually relocated to Durham, North Carolina where she attended North Carolina Central University to major in Physical Education.

Minnie was a very creative woman and was known for her style, grace and elegance. Designing and creating arts and crafts, sewing, shopping, traveling, reading and completing word search puzzles were just a few of her favorite things. She was also known for her savvy business sense in retail. She was best remembered for working at Leed's Music Center, Russell's Clothing Store, Belk Department Store, and Carter's Men's Store. She was also the owner of several businesses: Musical Square music stores, located in Martinsville and Eden, North Carolina and Impressions in Fashion Boutique located in Eden, North Carolina.

Above all, Minnie's greatest joy was her family. She was a mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many throughout her life. She always looked forward to and cherished the times spent with family members. She recently shared that Christmas was her favorite time of the year because her family would always get together to make lasting memories. She was often found talking about her family genealogy and trying to connect the dots to claim yet another cousin, aunt, or uncle.

Minnie was preceded in death by her parents: Lucinda Draper Morris and Robert J. Morris, brothers, Benjamin F. Morris and Nathaniel R. Morris, and sister, Shirley M. Deck.

Minnie leaves so many who will rejoice in her memory. Carrying on her legacy of love and faith are: her daughter, Granita Anglin, her daughter, Pamela Anglin; her son, Roderick Anglin “Ricky” (Ida); her niece who is like a daughter, Ruth “Nonie: Collins. Grandchildren: Demetus Anglin, Dendric Holland (Tanya), Devin Holland, Dennetra Holland and Roderick Anglin, Jr. (Comelitia); great-grandchildren, Kirsten Hess, Aliyah Waldrop, Jaden Anglin, Ja'Quise Anglin, Treasure Lampkins, Jamyah Anglin, Dendric ”DJ" Holland, Jr., Camden Holland and Denver Holland, a loving and dedicated “soul mate”, James “Jimmy” Martin; a life long family friend, Tyrone Penn; childhood friend, Mamie Geter; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous adopted family members and friends.

A visitation service will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. with the funeral at 12 noon at St. Paul High Street Baptist Church, 401 Fayette St., Martinsville, VA with Pastor Matthew Brown, Eulogist. Interment will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens, 869 Parkway Dr., Martinsville, VA.
