Mattie B. Hairston, 80, of Clarke Rd., Martinsville, VA, departed this life on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Forsythe Medical Center, Winston Salem, NC. She was born in Crew, Virginia on March 26, 1941, the daughter of the late Samuel Belcher and the late Mattie Brown Belcher.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Barry E. Hairston; one sister, Emma Hairston; and one brother, Barry Belcher.
Mattie was a member of the Greater New Bethel Apostolic Church where she served on the Mother's Board. She worked for Pulaski Furniture Company for 10 years, and retired from American of Martinsville after 16 years of service.
Mattie leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Leon Hairston of the home; two daughters, Candis R. (Linnell) Hairston of Martinsville, VA, and Tiffany L. Hairston of Charlotte, NC; five sons, Anthony L. (Dru) Hairston of Gainesville, VA, Michael O. (Ivy) Hairston of Triangle, VA, Lemuel M. Hairston of Rocky Mt., VA, Jeffery W. (Tai) Hairston of Blythewood, SC, and Kenneth C. Hairston of Martinsville, VA; two sisters, Thelma R. Bowles of Greensboro, NC, and Mary F. (Esaw) Hairston of Martinsville, VA; three brothers, Eldridge L. Belcher, Kenneth W. Belcher, and Jeffery A. Belcher all of Martinsville, VA; thirteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held of Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 1 p.m. at the Greater New Bethel Apostolic Church with Brother Renado Hairston, Eulogist. A public viewing will be held on Friday, April 16, 2021 between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. In accordance with the CDC, a face covering and social distancing is required. the family will be receiving friends at the home, 812 Clarke Rd., Martinsville, VA. Burial will follow at Carver memorial Gardens, Martinsville, VA.

I remember how Mattie Belle would light up the room at the family reunions that I attended. May the Hairston and Belcher family be comforted and granted perfect peace by The Holy Ghost during this time and always!
