Obituary For Mary Ellen Bannister

Mary Ellen Bannister, 95, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2018 at Blue Ridge Rehab Center. She was born July 28, 1923 in Martinsville, Va. to the late Cora Pettie and the late George Mitchell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James B. Bannister, Sr.; one son, Wendell "Joe" Bannister; and one granddaughter, Cynthia L. Bannister.

She is survived by two sons, Jeffrey (Cherry) Bannister of Upper Marlboro, Md.; and James B. "Cisco" (Renee) Bannister, Jr. of Durham, N.C.; four daughters, Carolyn Hairston of Martinsville, Va.; Cora (Eugene)Harper of Herndon, Va.; Lucy (Donald)Carson of Farmville, Va. and Catherine "Kitty" Case of Jacksonville, Fla,; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Mary was a member of St. Paul High Street Baptist Church where she was a member of the Senior Choir II, served on the Kitchen Committee, Willing Workers Ministry and Canary Harmonizers. She retired from Hampco Apparel.

The family will receive friends one half hour prior to the service and other times at the home of Carolyn Hairston at 3483 Spencer Preston Rd., Martinsville, Va. Funeral service will be held Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 3 p.m. at St Paul High Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Matthew Brown, Officiating.

Interment will be held in Carver Memorial Gardens, Martinsville, Va.
