Obituary For Marvia P. Mebane

On Monday, October 7, 2024, Marvia P. Mebane, 82, of Birchwood Road, Axton, VA transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life at her residence. She was born in Pittsylvania County, VA on February 9, 1942, to the late Willie Lloyd Dickerson and Kelsie Carter Dickerson.

In addition to her parents, Marvia was preceded in death by three sisters, Idabel Finney, Inez Draper, and Loney Martin, and three brothers, James Dickerson, AD Dickerson, and Lloyd Herman Dickerson.

Marvia was a life member of New Sharon Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she served as President of the Missionary Department until her health declined, a member of the Choir, a member of the Pastor's Aide Committee, the Culinary Committee, and the church custodian. Marvia was an avid pianist, and she played piano for many years. She retired from Henry County Plywood.

Those left to cherish her memory includes her husband, Larry Mebane of the home; two daughters, Jeanette Preston of Roanoke, VA, and Rochelle McKenzie (Marvin) of Chatham, VA; three sons, Sherman Payne of Martinsville, VA, Christopher Payne (Margaret) of Roanoke, VA, Mark Payne of Memphis, TN; two step-daughters, Laressa Woods (Preston) of Richmond, VA and Jackie McKenzie; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; three sisters, Loretta Callands of Winston Salem, NC, Helen Coles (MacArthur) of Keeling, VA, and Shirley Woods of Danville, VA; one brother, Franklin Dickerson (Linda) of Axton, VA; two brothers-in-law, Leon Mebane of Alabama, and Kenneth Mebane of Graham, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A visitation service will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 2:30 p.m. with the funeral service at 3 p.m. at New Sharon Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 3593 Wyatt Farm Rd., Axton, VA with Pastor Larry Penn, Eulogist. Interment will follow at the Dickerson Family Cemetery, Wyatt Farm Rd., Axton, VA.

A public viewing will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024, at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville, VA between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Other times, the family will be receiving friends at the residence, 1406 Birchwood Rd., Axton, VA. Live streaming of the funeral service will be available at Hairston Funeral Home live via Facebook.
