LaKia Monique Hunt, 33, of Martinsville, VA, departed this life on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at her residence. She was born in Martinsville, VA, March 22, 1986, the daughter of Ricky Hairston and Gloria Hunt. LaKia was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Douglas D. Hunt, SR and Sally D. Hunt.
LaKia was a member of Saint Paul High Street Baptist church; and a 2004 graduate of Martinsville High School. She graduated from Patrick Henry Community College with a degree in Early Childhood Development.
LaKia leaves to cherish her memory one son, Naikeem Penn of the home; her mother, Gloria Hunt of Martinsville, VA; her father, Ricky Hairston of Martinsville, VA; one brother, Delvin Hunt of Martinsville, VA; paternal grandparents, Leonard Robinson and Juanita Hairston both of Martinsville, VA; one niece, Alani LaKia Hunt of Martinsville, VA; and a host of aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service, and other times, the family will receive friends at the home of her aunt, Marie Ross, 214 Spring St., Martinsville, Va. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 12 noon, at Mt. Zion United Holy Church, 461 Figsboro Rd., Martinsville, VA. With Elder LaVarra Hagwood presiding. Interment will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens, Martinsville, VA.
