On Monday, January 17, 2022, Kenneth Waller Swanson (Ken) peacefully transitioned at Chatham Health & Rehabilitation facility in Chatham VA. Kenneth was born December 24, 1961, to the late Print Walter Swanson and Janie Lee Waller Swanson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Bernard, Melvin, Lillian, Gloria, and Johnny.
Ken was educated in the Martinsville School system and graduated from Martinsville High School in 1981. He later received an associate degree from PHCC. Ken was also a watch care member of Shiloh New Site Baptist Church, Stafford, VA. He loved playing chess and checkers, and he enjoyed watching a good action movie. In addition, Ken was a great Bible historian. It was truly amazing the things he could tell others about God’s word.
Ken was employed for several years at American Furniture Company where he learned upholstery. He briefly operated his own business, then he worked as a caretaker for his brother Sam. Ken never forgot his upholstery skills. He continued doing upholstery jobs, washing cars, and other jobs to earn extra money. He was always busy working and lending a helping hand to others. Ken will always be remembered for his quiet caring spirit.
He leaves to cherish his memory his brothers: Print D. Swanson (Arlene), Raymond L. Swanson (Traci) and Samuel D. Swanson all of Martinsville, VA, Lawrence J. Swanson (Teresa) Danville, VA, Larry L. Swanson (Lori), Richmond, VA, and James L. Swanson (Mary) of Leesburg, VA; sisters: Mildred Ward (Curt) Williamsburg, VA, Myrtle R. Hodge (Jerry) of Atlanta, GA, and Marie A. Carter (Lemon), Mary F. Dallas (Bruce), Margie Swanson, Mary Walker and Barbara Johnson of Martinsville, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
