Joyce Emmagene Easley was the youngest daughter of 12 children born to the late Abraham and Olda Easley on July 28, 1935 in Axton, VA. She peacefully transitioned to her heavenly home on December 19, 2018 at Johnston-Willis Hospital in Richmond, VA. She was educated in Pittsylvania County and graduated from Southside High School in 1953.
Joyce relocated to Hackensack, NJ in 1962. She worked at numerous dry cleaners during her time in New Jersey. After retiring, she moved back to Axton, VA. Whether in Virginia or New Jersey, Joyce always lived close to family. She accepted Christ at a young age and was actively involved with ministries in the church. She is a former member of Trinity Baptist Church in Hackensack, NJ. Upon her return to Virginia she re-joined Sharon Grove Baptist Church. In addition to her work in the church, she loved to sew. Joyce made clothes for herself and others and could always be counted on to make clothing alterations for friends and family. Joyce truly enjoyed family gatherings that included food and we enjoyed teasing her about her healthy appetite. She took great pride in being an aunt to all of her nieces and nephews.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Abraham and Olda Easley, her brothers, Claude Easley, James (Nick) Easley, Hubert Easley, Harold Easley, Earl Easley and sisters Elaine Lowman, Cecile Pittman, Clementra Watkins, and Earline Nunnally.
Those left to cherish her memory include; her sister Wilma Easley of Axton, VA; two brothers, Roy Easley of Yorktown, VA and George Easley of Bridgeport, CT; two sister-in-laws Bernice Easley of Yorktown, VA and Barbara Easley of Axton, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends, and neighbors.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Noon at New Sharon Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Larry Penn officiating. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service.
I will always remember Joyce’s beautiful smile and kind spirit. May she rest in eternal peace. Deborah Puryear, Hackensack, New Jersey
