Tim and I always thought so much of Mr. Hairston. He was always so kind and sweet. When Tim's dad had to give up his driver's license we specifically asked for Joe Louis to come by and get it because we knew the situation would go much better if he were there and it did. I can still hear your voice and your laugh....until we meet again. Tim and Cathy Burton
On a lighter note, I would like to share something funny, as we used to call him Uncle Joe Louis used to catch me parked on the country back woods dirt roads and shine the light on me and say "Oh that's you, what you doing down here". He used to be on duty at Lenny's Restaurant and he would say "Is you old enough to get in?" and then he would say "Go on in" because I was with my twin cousins, his nephews. So Rest in Paradise maybe he will be guarding the gates of Heaven and let me sneak in. :)
I just heard of the passing of cousin Joe Louis. This just breaks my heart! He was such a joy. My prayers to his family! N. LaVerne Hodge DeSett

Dea. Joe Louis was a good, kind and sweet person. I remembered when my Mom passed and he brought the chairs down and later he and his grandson Brandon came back and fixed her sign in her yard( without us asking). We were really impressed by that and he would encourage us for taking care of her. I have known him and Barbara for years and I pray for will strengthen them during this difficult time. My condolences to the family! Mr Hairston, "Joe Lewis ", as he told me to call him so many years ago, was such a dear person. I was a young single mom when the Hairston's were my next door neighbors. Joe would stop in front of the house and blow the horn till I come to the door to let him know I was ok. I time I caught him mowing my yard. God bless that man! Deacon Hairston was a great comfort to David and I when we lost Apostle Joseph and Mother Janie Adams. He came to our home and he said anything you need, just ask. He left us with a hand full of money, he said take Maggie out to dinner. We said no, but he insisted because he said he loved us. This will always be in my heart. His love was real.
Deacon Hairston was a comfort to David and I when Apostle Adams and Mother Janie Adams died. I remember his bear hug and the kiss on my forehead. When we moved into our home, he said anything you need just ask. He gave David a hand full of money and said take Maggie out to supper. I Love y'all he said, and left us with a smile.
To the Hairston family and to Mother Hairston and Valerie, the Cooper family truly send our condolences to all of you. Deacon Hairston was a special person to me growing up in the Way of The Cross. I look back when we would come to Martinsville for conventions and we had to find a camp site for our camper and Deacon Hairston help my dad ( John B Cooper) find a great spot. When the convention was at the Gaylord and myself and my wife were selling Stacy Adam shoes and he would buy shoes from us. Every time he would see us after that, he would ask if we had the shoes. I also remember he has on a tie that I liked. I told him " Deac that's a bad tie set you have on". He looked at me and took it off and gave it to me. I was shocked because that had never happened to me. Since then I have done the same to others and I thank him for that. Its all about showing love. He will be missed and loved.
My prayers are with the family. Wendy Prillaman
