On Saturday, June 15, 2024, Gracie Frances Devins, 83, of Mountain Valley Rd., Axton, VA transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life at SOVAH Health-Martinsville. She was born Martinsville, VA on October 28, 1940, to the late Guidy Hobert Perkins, Sr. and Gracie Waller Perkins.
In addition to her parents, Gracie was preceded in death by her husband, George Junior Devins; one daughter, Lisa Muhammad; five sisters, Elenor Stockton, Lizzie Hairston, Gertrude Griggs, Mertha Hairston and Margaret Hairston; two brothers, Hobert Perkins, Jr. and Benjamin Perkins.
Gracie attended New Fall Creek Primitive Baptist Church, Axton, VA. She retired from Tultex after many years of service. She graduated from George Washington Carver High School class of 1959.
Those left to cherish her memory include one daughter, Gwendolyn Devins of Axton, VA; three sons, Jerry Devins of Antioch, CA, Anthony Devins and Garrett Devins (Elizabeth) both of Axton, VA; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Molois Philpott of Martinsville, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A visitation service will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. with the funeral service at 12 noon at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville, VA with Elder Herbert Prunty, Eulogist. Interment will follow at the Devins Family Cemetery, Mountain Valley Rd., Axton, VA.
A public viewing will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. Other times, the family will be receiving friends at the home, 8949 Mountain Valley Rd., Axton, VA from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. daily. I know where I get my nice side from! lol 😂 I am truly heartbroken 💔 I couldn't make it but at least I got to see you in September on a spare of the moment trip. It was so nice for you to feed me and let me take a nap then we talked for a while then cousin Jerry came by it was so nice I will never forget that day!
