Dorothy K. Hairston, 89, of Red Hill Dr, Martinsville, VA departed this life Thursday, June 15, 2023, at her residence. She was born June 16, 1933, to the late John Millard Kirby and Maggie Dillard King.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, James Dillard and her sister, Marjorie Marie Dillard.
She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of East Martinsville. She was employed at The Blue Ridge Nursing Center and The Martinsville Senior Center before her retirement.
Those left behind to cherish her memory include, her two daughters, Vena L. Martin of Hampton, VA, and Felisa M. (Cecil) France of Martinsville, VA; her two grandchildren, Amber N. Johnson of Hampton, VA, and Cecil K. France of Richmond, VA; her great-grandson, Kyree A. Jackson of Hampton, VA; her caregiver, Gracie Tideline of Martinsville, VA; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A family visitation for Dorothy K. Hairston will be held Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at First Baptist Church of East Martinsville at 10:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral at 11:00 a.m., with Dr. Charles Whitfield, eulogist. The burial will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens, Martinsville, VA. A public viewing will be held Monday, June 19 2023, at Hairston Funeral Home from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.

From Pat Hairston Ross (Detroit) Dorothy was such a great friend for so long. She would visit me at mama's everyday when I moved back to Martinsville from West Virginia many years ago. And over the years we remained friends. She was such a nice person. I will miss her. My deepest sympathy to the family and I am sorry I couldn't be there.
