On Thursday, April 20, 2023, Missionary Charlene B. King, 75, of Cardinal Ln., Martinsville transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life at her residence. Born in Virginia February 11, 1948, she was the daughter of Charles Semper, Jr., and Mary Inez Harris Semper Edwards who preceded her in death. In addition to her parents, Charlene was preceded in death by two brothers, Andrew Leon Preston, and Charles Semper II.
Missionary King was a faithful member of Mt. Sinai Apostle Church where she served as a Missionary, Sunday School, Secret Sisters, and a Mentor. She retired from the Dialysis Center as a Registered Nurse after many years of service. She was a graduate of Old Dominion University, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Richard King of the home; one son, Richard L. King (Yvonne) of Martinsville, VA; six grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; two sisters, Teresa Semper Johns, Patricia Semper Sullivan both of Martinsville, VA; and a host of other relatives, Mt. Sinai Church family, and friends.
A visitation service will be held on Monday, April 24, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. at Mt. Sinai Apostle Church, 7 Peters St., Martinsville with Bishop James C. Richardson, Jr. Eulogist. A burial will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens, 1310 Carver Rd., Martinsville. A public viewing will be held on Sunday, April 23, 2023, at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville, between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.

I worked with Charlene in the mid to late 70's at our hospital. She was always kind and helpful to our patients and our staff. An excellent nurse! A joy to work with and to have as a friend. Love to all of you. Liz Knighton
