Obituary For Andrae L. Matthews

On Tuesday, November 29, 2022, Andrae L. Matthews 43, of Mullins Ct., Martinsville transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke, VA. Born in Virginia May 6, 1979, he was the son of McKenzie Matthews, and the late Velma V. Carter.

In addition to his mother, Andrae was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, William and Jessie Matthews, and his maternal grandparents, Levi, and Myrtle Carter.

At an early age, Andrae gave his life to the Lord and became a member of Alpha Apostolic Faith Temple where he was the church drummer and was instrumental in various other churches. He was a graduate of Fieldale Collinsville High School and later attended Shaw University in Raleigh, NC, and Patrick & Henry Community College. He was a machine operator for Applied Felts.

Those left to cherish his memory include his father, McKenzie Matthews of Spencer, VA; one brother, Sean Matthews of Martinsville, VA; two aunts, Patricia Via of Martinsville, VA, and Faye Thomas of Reidsville, VA; four uncles, William Carter of Martinsville, VA, Kenneth Carter of Bassett, VA, Dennis Carter of Greensboro, NC, and Vaugh Matthews; and a host of other relatives, and friends.

A visitation service will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2022, from 11:30 until the time of the funeral service at 12 p.m. at Refuge Temple Ministries, 205 Clearview Dr., Martinsville, VA with Minister Arnold Bullard Eulogist. Burial will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be held on Friday, December 9, 2022, at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. In accordance with the CDC, a face covering, and social distancing is required.

Arrangements are entrusted to Hairston Funeral Home.
