On Monday, February 13, 2023, Alma Hairston 90, formally of Martinsville transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life at Franklin Health & Rehab Center, Rocky Mount, VA. She was born in Ridgeway, Virginia, July 26, 1932, the daughter of the late Eddie Bob Hairston, and the late Eliza Joyce Hairston.
In addition to her parents, Alma was preceded in death by one son, Anthony Hairston, three sister, and six brothers.
Alma worked hard all her life. She retired from American Furniture Company after many years of service. Alma lived a long, happy life. She was a friend to many. Alma enjoyed her life socializing with all age of friends and acquaintances. Alma had a gift for quick words and candid thoughts to keep you engaged in long talks and visits.
Those left to cherish her memory include one son, Sherman Hairston of Burke, VA; four grandchildren, Aubrey Hairston (Andrea), Meghan Hairston, Angela Hairston, and LaRone Hairston; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Lena Mae Hairston of Martinsville, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Carver Memorial Gardens, 1310 Carver Rd., Martinsville with Elder Earnest Long, Eulogist. The family will receive friends on Monday, February 20, 2023, at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville between the hours of 1p.m. until 5 p.m.
