With the rising of the sun on June 25, 1935, a radiant soul entered this world, and with the setting of the sun on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, we bid farewell to a beloved presence. Andrew Preston Carter, born to Stephen and Minnie Carter in the tranquil embrace of Rockdale County, embarked on a journey of love, service, and boundless compassion.

Andrew's life was a tapestry woven with threads of diverse experiences and profound connections. From his days at David T Howard High School in Atlanta, where he absorbed the wisdom of education, to his multifaceted career encompassing tailoring, phlebotomy, and caregiving, Andrew's journey was marked by versatility and dedication.

His hands, skilled in the art of tailoring, brought beauty and transformation to garments. As a phlebotomist at Grady Hospital, his gentle touch brought solace to those in need. Yet, it was in his roles as a caregiver, a hairdresser, and a domestic worker that Andrew truly exemplified his compassionate nature—a jack of all trades, he touched lives with his kindness and warmth.

Andrew's spirit was as bright as the sun, radiating love and joy wherever he went. Outgoing and unapologetically himself, he had a knack for blending tough love with unwavering affection. His relationships were characterized by deep bonds, none more cherished than that with his sister, Rebecca, whose love was a constant source of strength and support.

In his faith, Andrew found purpose and solace, serving his church community as an usher, a choir member, and a valued member of the culinary staff. His commitment to his faith was a testament to his belief in the power of love and service to others.

Even as the sun set on his days, Andrew continued to shine brightly, his love and compassion touching the lives of all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his cherished sister, Rebecca, his dear brother, Robert, and a host of beloved family and friends.

In addition to his immediate family, Andrew leaves behind a legacy of love that transcends bloodlines. He is survived by an honorary niece, Patricia Brown, honorary cousin, Jamie Brown, and his adopted son by heart, Emmanuel J Brown. To all who had the privilege of knowing him, Andrew was not just a brother, but a loyal friend and a cherished companion.

As we watch the sun set on Andrew Preston Carter's earthly journey, we do so with heavy hearts but also with gratitude for the love, laughter, and indomitable spirit he shared with us. Though he may no longer walk among us, his memory will forever be a beacon of light guiding us through the darkness.
