In profound sorrow we announce the passing of Mr. Abe Bernard Upshaw. Celebration of Life will be Friday, January 26, 2024 11:00 am at Central United Methodist Church 501 M.L.K. Jr Dr SW Atlanta, GA 30314. Intermet will be at Southview Cemetery 1990 Jonesboro Road SE Atlanta, GA 30315. Viewing will be Thursday, January 25, 2024 12 noon-6:00 pm at Grissom-Clark Funeral Home. 404-373-3191 .Mr. Abe Bernard (Redman) Upshaw was born on December 10, 1968, to Vinnie Upshaw in Atlanta, Georgia. He made his transition on January 17, 2024, with his mother at his bedside. Mr. Abe grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. He was educated in Atlanta public school system, and he went on to further his education at DeVry University. He joined Shady Grove Baptist Church at an early age. Abe was a pro at construction; he could do anything when it came to building. He specialized in home remodeling and new building construction. One of his proud accomplishments is building the track at Sylvan Middle School. He was also a mechanic with many more skills; what we would call “a jack of all trades”. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mrs. Daisy Groom; aunt, Willie Bell Upshaw; and uncles, Joelet Upshaw and Wille Joe Sanders. He leaves to cherish his memory: his very devoted mother, Mrs. Vinnie Upshaw; daughter, Alexis (Demarcus) Upshaw-Carter; three beautiful grandchildren, Macarrio Carter, Harmoni Carter, and Demarcus Wilson; step-granddaughter, Aryonne Genaelink; aunts, Recie Sanders, Lillie (Stanley) Powell, and Villie Payne; uncle, Joseph Groom; great-aunt, Ella Haynes of Haine City, FL; great-uncle, Walter Tarver of Miami, FL; special friend, Lavonne Turner; and a host of special cousins, relatives, and friends

GM my heart hurts for us! I feel like Red passing was a fumble. I wish his life was a snap that could be redone because his death was offside for us. I'm mad and blue because I can't hear from him. I got sacked while I was looking and praying I wouldn't get that call that death had call him home. I prayed for a review but after review, the called stands and I was told it was true. Yes I'm mad but I still love him. I'll shouting but I can't cheer because my cousin's loss hurt like I'm injured. I took knee to pray for you but your sickness cause you to be place in a casket and I can't be there today for u. I can't catch a break. Everything someone says it's like a ball dropped in endzone. I know u wanted want me to be sad and you probably cuss me like a coach and tell me to dry my eyes , wipe my face & get back to being strong. Although you were a champion in my eyes and u fought till the end of your life . I wish we could go into over time to see , call , laugh and talk to u again but time just ran out. I ask God to but minutes back on the clock I ran to the sideline and ask God what to do but nothing was left but for me to cry and pray about the passing of you. I know they think our relationship was just about NFL but as we say we're UFL( Upshaws for life.) I love you dear cousin and I can't watch another football game without thinking of u! U told people my team cheated but you cheated me. You left without saying goodbye but I know you thought of me. Our family is our teammates and your loss has caused all of us to get in ahuttle and we'll never break because I'll love for u will keep us together! Love u ! UFL for life! The best team u can be play on!!!!
