The sirens are quieter now in Gaston County, as Mt. Holly's most memorable character, Samuel Eugene Reid — better known as Bobby (because his mama said so) — has officially clocked out. Bobby left this world on April 20, 2025, exactly one month before his 63rd birthday.
Born on May 21, 1962, in Gaston County and raised in the heart of Mt. Holly’s Low-End community.
A celebratory balloon release, in memory of Bobby’s life will be held where all great Bobby events were — outside. Family and friends are invited to gather at River Street Park in Mt. Holly on Sunday April 27, 2025 at 7 pm, ballons will be released at sunset.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Bobby’s name to Phoenix Counseling Center at phoenixcc.us
I don't know where to start or how to feel, we was the maintenance people for the house Sammy lived in, I was like a son to him, every time we worked up there he would come out and get on me and joke and laugh we would have a awesome time, sometimes I would bring him snacks and would sit inside with him and talk etc, we always had a good time and if I never answered his phone calls best believe I would hear it from him, I am lost in words I can't believe he's gone, I love you Sammy.
Sorry for your loss and sending my condolences to you and your family in your time of needs. Praying for your family
