Samuel Eugene Davis, Jr. aka “Sleepy,” to his family and friends was born in Gaston County on April 10, 1970 to Brenda Gail McCorkle Feemster and Samuel Eugene Davis, Sr. Samuel departed this life on April 19, 2020 at his residence on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
Samuel was a 1988 graduate of East Gaston Senior High School. He also received 4 months in advance training from the Eastern Airlines (ACT) Advanced Career Training School in Atlanta, Georgia. At an early age, he joined New Providence Baptist Church where he sang in the choir.
Samuel was avid sports fan. Two of his favorite teams were UNC Tar Heel and the Washington Redskins. He also played golf. In his early years, he played soccer with the Optimist Club. Samuel was a happy child who loved his family, especially his brother and cousins.
In 1996, Samuel relocated and made his home on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. He found employment with the Beaufort County School District as a Special Education Assistance. Samuel showed leadership skills at a young age. He was later chosen along with another employee, to train as a Computer Specialist. He was also chosen to lead the Student Laptop Computer Program. After embarking on additional training, he served as a System Support Information Technologist at Hilton Head Middle School and Hilton Head Senior High School for the past 23 years. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Vertie Mae Gardner McCorkle and Rufus (Bill) McCorkle, one uncle; Craig E. McCorkle, and one aunt; Doris E. McCorkle.
He leaves to cherish precious memories: his mother; Brenda Gail Feemster and stepfather, Gunzo Feemster of Lowell, North Carolina, one brother; R Chavis Davis (Sylvia) of Charlotte, North Carolina, stepsister; Chermeka L. Feemster of Gastonia, North Carolina, seven nephews, one niece, four great nephews, one great niece, and a host of many god friends, uncles, aunts, and other relatives and friends.
His colleagues will forever remember and miss his long legged striding through the hallway, that gorgeous ear to ear smile, walking around with his stress relieving tennis ball in his hands, and his pride for the “Blue Bomer” and how much he loved anything that was Carolina.
He will lie in state at Gregory Funeral Service on Sunday; April 26, 2020 from 2 until 4:00.
A private graveside service will be held at West Creek Cemetery, Mt. Holly
