James Carvin Gardin, affectionately known as “JC”, was born to the late John and Elizabeth Gardin on January 10, 1950, in Mount Holly, NC. He departed this life on Thursday, October 28, 2021, in Greensboro, NC surrounded by his family.
JC was educated in the Mount Holly School System and graduated from Mount Holly High School in 1968. He played football for the school and was inducted into the Mount Holly Sport’s Hall of Fame in 2012! After graduating, he married his high school sweetheart Bertha Burris and joined the US Army where he served in the Vietnam War. JC was employed by Merita Bakery and served in various positions, including Vice President of the Union, until he retired after 30 years of employment. JC never met a stranger and never missed an opportunity to make you laugh. He was an avid sports fan and loved the Pittsburgh Steelers and Atlanta Braves. He enjoyed fishing, sightseeing at Walmart and let’s not forget his lottery tickets. JC loved his family and was a “Girl Dad” before we even knew what a “Girl Dad” was! He enjoyed spending time with his family and could often be found cutting up with his cousin Chucky. He also enjoyed picking up his grandkids and riding them around, even though every time he did it, he swore he wasn’t going to do it again!
In addition to his parents, JC was preceded in death by one sister, Jeanette Gardin, and two brothers, Raymond McCorkle, and Joe McCorkle.
He leaves to cherish his wonderful legacy, five daughters; Keisha Gardin-Tolliver, Tamilia Lee, Charisse Gardin-Baldwin (David), Danielle Gardin and Jametra Gardin-Dennis (Theron); three sisters; Peggy Davis, Lena Gardner (Ronnie), and Ophelia Gardin; one brother; Arthur Moore, eight grandchildren;Jalen Cathey, Dominique Black (Jourdan), Kyra Anderson, Maya Gardin, Devin Tolliver, Tyler Conner, Joseph Chancellor Williams and Bailey Williams; one great granddaughter; Peyton Black; two Goddaughters; Sherika Barnett and Chenise Little (Cedric); five God grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, two aunts, one uncle, other relatives and friends.
