Obituary For Charles Edward Mathews, Sr

Funeral Service for Mr. Charles Edward Mathews, Sr. will be Saturday, April 29, at 12:00 PM at 17th Street Baptist Church with Pastor Jeffry Mills, Eulogist. Interment will follow in Eden Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday at Goodson Funeral Home from 1:00-6:00 PM. Mr. Charles Mathews, Sr., "Cheese," began his life on May 4, 1945, with Mr. Arthur E. and Mrs. Azza Lee Mathews in Anniston, AL.

He graduated from Cobb High School, and after school, he went to work with his cousin, Willie Freeman, for over four years. Later he worked for Swain and Son Construction Company for over 30 years in Anniston, AL. Memories of Charles Sr. will be cherished by his wife of 63 years, Ella D. Mathews; three daughters, Tomsietta Bradford (Anniston), Melodee Johnson (Pope Sr.) of Sumter, SC, and Rae Wright (Wayne) of Anniston; one son, Brenten Mathews (Anita) of Anniston; grandchildren, Erik Mathews, Lakita Opute (Justice), Marketta Mathews, Verlencia Truss (John), Pope Johnson, Jr., TeKoreia Groce (Raphael), Tarie Mallard, ArTasa Mathews, Kalynn McWilliams (Nigel), Nickolus Johnson, and Brenten Mathews, Jr., and Julian Wright II; mother-inlaw, Mrs. Reva N. Godwin Weeks; daughter-inlaw, Michelle Mathews; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Ragland of Anniston, Linda Mallory of Anniston, and Brenda Sheperd (Arther) of Dayton OH; one brother-inlaw, Richard Mallory of Dayton, OH; and a host of nieces, great-grandchildren, nephews, and cousins.
