CROWLEY – A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at Greater Love Family Worship Center for Mr. Wardell Reed, Sr.
Mr. Wardell Reed, Sr. 79, entered eternal rest on Friday, August 12, 2022 at 3:43 pm at The Carpenter House in Lafayette, La. Mr. Reed was born on March 20,1943 to the union of the late Mr. Lester Reed, Sr. & Mrs. Elnora Grim Reed of Franklin, LA. He was a resident of Morgan City, LA before settling in Crowley, LA. At an early age he accepted God as his Savior and became a member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, where he shared his love for gospel music by singing for the congregation. He also enjoyed attending his nephew Bishop Louis Dugar’s church which was Greater Love Family Worship Center in Crowley, LA. Mr. Reed was a long distance truck driver, he worked 30 plus years at Spell Brothers Trucking Company and Francis Drilling Fluids there he earned numerous awards and recognition and later retired. Mr. Reed was a very devoted husband and father.
He leaves to cherish his memory his spouse of 51 years Mrs. Helen Gums Reed, to this union 9 children were born, he is loved and will be missed by all of his children: Barbara Dell Reed of Crowley, La. Germaine Reed Breaux (Michael) of Lafayette, La. Ronald Butler (Gerry ) of Eunice, La. Melanie Gums Harris of Lafayette, La. Lester Reed of Dallas, Tx. Michael Reed (Tonya) of Rayne, La; Murphy Reed, Kevin Reed, Debra Reed Warner(Jarvis), Beulah Mae Reed, and Elnora Reed, all of Crowley, La. His loving sisters Myrtle Reed Jackson of Sorrell, La and Doris Reed Favors of Patterson, La.; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Mr. Lester Reed, Sr. & Mrs. Elnora Grim Reed; his siblings, Norbert Reed, Sr., Henry Reed, Leola Reed Kinchen, Beulah Reed Christman, Ernest Reed, Sr,, Lester Reed, Jr. Mercedell Reed Williams, Mozella Reed Triggs, and Murphy Reed; one son Wardell Reed, Jr. and grandsons Ryan Gums, Sr., Christopher Mayfield, Jr and Braylon Mayfield. His extended family Sylvester Bolden Reed, Emma Lowe, Lula Ervine, and Joseph Lowe.
