WASHINGTON - Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at Emma Zion Baptist Church, 517 E. Vine Street, Washington, LA for Mrs. Lucy “Sister” Malveaux, 85, who entered eternal rest on Monday, July 15, 2019 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Ville Platte, LA. Interment will be in Mohorn Baptist Church Cemetery in Plaisance, LA. Rev. Joseph Jones, Pastor of Emma Zion Baptist Church, will be officiating the funeral service. Mrs. Malveaux was a member of Emma Zion Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher for 35+ years. Mrs. Malveaux’s memories are being cherished by: her three sons, Douglas Burleigh, Sr. (Kathleen) and Louis Burleigh (Cynthia), both of Houston, TX and Mitchell Thomas (Stephanie) of Opelousas, LA; her daughter, Annette Sonnier (Eddie) of Opelousas, LA; four brothers, Marshall Thomas, Sydney Thomas and George Thomas, all of Opelousas, LA and Leonard Thomas, Sr. (Anna) of Leonville, LA; three sisters, Mary Burleigh, Mable Stansbury and Pearl Thomas, all of Opelousas, LA; 23 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Mrs. Malveaux was preceded in death by: her husband, Abner Malveaux; her parents, Vincent Thomas and Lucille Robertson Thomas; two sons, James Malveaux and George Nolan Malveaux; one daughter, Lucy Ann Burleigh; four brothers, Clarence Thomas, Lawrence Thomas, Earl Thomas and Leroy Thomas; and two sisters, Cora Thomas and Josephine Thomas. Visitation will be observed on Saturday, July 20, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at Emma Zion Baptist Church. Words of condolences may be expressed at fordandjosephfh.com. I can just remember all the times we spent together and everyday it hurts I don't know how this can just keep me hurt after these years but my rough times yu was there I had dreams and plans for us granny it's like a nightmare that I can't get over I really hope you dancing with angels and I love you so much forever and always
Always a sweet caring generous person who would give you her last always gave good advice kept me in church from Sunday school ushering in the choir taking communion from learning the word of the Bible for always praying for me over me and my kids for teaching me too show compassion and care for my neighbors an those in need always telling me too be there for my mom no matter if you rasied me an not her thank you for never giving up on me for always loving me love you so much every day it's like a bad dream that you are gone you name me after you taught me everything you know an in your way thank you again for it all granny forever my T Jones I
