It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mrs. Georgette Richard, a beloved mother, devoted sister, and faithful servant of Jehovah, who left this world peacefully on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at the age of 75. A memorial service to celebrate Georgette's life and faith will be held on January 4, 2025, at 10 AM at Ford and Joseph Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Garden of Memory Cemetery in Opelousas, La. All those who knew her, whether family or friend, are invited to join in honoring her legacy.
Her legacy began on September 12, 1949, Rufus Sr. and Viola Lazard welcomed their new baby girl, and her life was marked by love, dedication, and a steadfast faith. At a young age, Georgette was united in marriage to her late husband, Jimmy Richard, with whom she shared a rich and fulfilling life together. Their 40-year union was blessed with six wonderful children: Marilyn, Duane, Jimmy Jr., Roderick, Anthony, and Cedrick. She cherished each moment spent with her family, nurturing them with love and instilling in them the values of compassion, kindness, and devotion to Jehovah
Throughout her life, Georgette worked tirelessly as a housekeeper, a role she approached with diligence and pride. She took great joy in her work, finding fulfillment in caring for the homes and families of others. However, her true passion lay in her faith. As a faithful member of Jehovah's Witness for over 50 years, she devoted countless hours to sharing her beliefs and the teachings of Jehovah with others, always taking the time to offer encouragement and support to those she encountered. Mrs. Richard’s kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith touched the lives of all who knew her. She will be remembered for her radiant smile, her thoughtful conversations about spiritual matters, and her ability to make everyone feel valued and cherished.
Mrs. Richard’s memories are being cherished by her only daughter, Marilyn (Micheal) Augustine of Opelousas, La; her four sons: Duane (Trasima) Richard of Lafayette, La., Jimmy ( Andrea) Richard of Beaumont, Texas, Roderick (Wakeisha) Richard of Arnaudville, La, and Cedrick Richard of Opelousas, La; one daughter-in-law, Takisha Richard of Melbourne, Fla.; three brothers: Clarence Lazard Sr. of Opelousas, La, Ernest Lazard of Opelousas, La., and Timothy Elister Lazard, Sr. of Beaumont., Tx, two sisters: Janet (Alfred Sr.) Leblanc of Beaumont, Tx., and Mary Jane Wilson of Opelousas, La.; eighteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren, one great-great -grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Mrs. Georgette Richard leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and an abiding spirit that will forever inspire us. She will be deeply missed yet lovingly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her warm spirit and open heart made her a treasured friend to many.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Richard Sr., her parents, Rufus and Viola (Laws) Lazard; one son, Anthony Richard; and four brothers, James Lazard, Raymond Lazard, Sr., Otis Lazard, and Rufus Lazard, Jr.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, from 8:00 am to 9:45 am at Ford and Joseph Funeral Home
