OPELOUSAS – Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at Bellevue Street Baptist Church in Opelousas, LA for Mr. Calvin Handy, 80, who entered eternal rest on Friday, December 20, 2024 at Opelousas General Health System in Opelousas, LA. Interment will be in Garden of Memory Cemetery in Opelousas, LA.
Rev. Brian Alfred, Pastor of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, will be officiating the funeral service.
Mr. Handy was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church where he served as the Layman’s President and member of the Deacon Board.
Mr. Handy’s memories are being cherished by: his wife, Lois Hanchett Handy of Opelousas, LA; two daughters, Paula Ben (Rodrick) of Ville Platte, LA and Eukeitha Jiles of Shreveport, LA; one brother, Donald Handy of Opelousas, LA; two sisters, Beverly Reynolds and Donna Chevis, both of Opelousas, LA; a Goddaughter that he raised, Dymond Weston; two grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by: his parents, McKinley and Lillian Colston Handy; one sister, Betty Wright; and one brother-in-law, Warren Hanchett.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at Bellevue Street Baptist Church.
