MR. WARLIE JONES, son of the late George Washington Jones and the late Harriet Hayes Jones, was born April 12, 1943 in Palmer Springs, VA and departed this life August 18, 2023 at his residence, Boydton, VA. He was also preceded in death by his siblings- Hazel Blizzard and George Washington Jones, Jr.
At an early age he was baptized and joined Jerusalem United Church of Christ. He attended Cotton Creek School and graduated from the former East End High School in 1963.
Warlie relocated to Jersey City, NJ where he was employed with the Jersey City Medical Center as an engineer. He took pride in his job and continued his engineering training until he achieved the highest honor—“The Black Seal.” After more than 30 years of employment, he retired.
Warlie decided to move back to his hometown of Boydton, VA, where he purchased a home and took great pride in it. Some would say, he was “real persnickety” about his lawn, which he kept in pristine condition.
Warlie attended Jerusalem United Church of Christ, but recently before his death he received the right hand of fellowship from Associate Pastor, Reverend Zella Miller-Young on March 6, 2023 and joined the Sharon Baptist Church, South Hill, VA under the pastorship of Reverend Elton R. Buffaloe.
Warlie is survived by 2 children- Freida Jones of Jersey City, NJ and Warlie Jones, Jr. of Bronx, NY; 6 grandchildren- Katrina Stokes, Olivia and Raven Wise, all of Jersey City, NJ; Brianna, Nairobi, and Majolie Jones, all of Bronx, NY; 2 great-grandchildren- Aiden and Josiah; 6 sisters- Dorothy Powell of Lodi, NJ; Georgia (Herbert) Williams-Rodriquez of Guatemala City, Central America; Bettie Jones, Elizabeth Pittman, Sarah Jones, all of Boydton, VA; Gloria Jones of Hackensack, NJ; 4 brothers- Charlie and Joel Jones of Boydton, VA; Ernest (Priscilla) Jones of Leesburg, VA and David Jones of Hackensack, NJ and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
