SNOW ELLA JONES JOHNSON, “MA” to her kids, departed her loving family on April 3, 2024. She was born in Mecklenburg County, VA on September 15, 1933 to the late John P. Jones and “The Wonderful” Mattie Sue Bennett Jones. She was also preceded in death by her siblings- Carrie J. Jones, DeGora Tisdale, Rufus Jones, Earsley Suber, and John Wesley Jones.
At an early age she was baptized and joined Lambert’s Chapel RZUA Church, South Hill, VA. She attended the Mecklenburg County Public Schools and attended St. Paul’s College, Lawrenceville, VA.
Snow Ella was mother to Patricia and Montgomery. She and her late husband, Thomas Johnson, reared them in Brooklyn, NY. They were reared with love, devotion, and when necessary, a “pop” on the You-Know-Where.
As a Para-Professional for more than 30 years with the NYC Board of Education, she was known as a stern, yet compassionate educator. All the children loved her and many would return to seek guidance and her company years after their graduation.
Her hobbies included dancing (She was the best ever), entertaining and playing cards. She was very proud of the ginormous friend circle she would develop and cultivate throughout her lifetime.
Snow Ella is survived by her children- Patricia and Montgomery; grandchildren- LaTanya Kallam, Stephen Russell, and Daevonte Dawson; three brothers- Elmore, Alpheus Lee and Gilbert Jones; brother-in-law, William Suber, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
