MRS. RACHEL ANN KIRBY, daughter of the late Eddie Langston and Leona Rogers, was born November 2, 1938 in Mecklenburg County, VA and departed this life April 9, 2023 in Nash General Hospital, Rocky Mount, NC. She was also preceded in death by four children- Darlene and Charles Brown, Darcel and Maurice Kirby; three grandchildren- Ronniece Kirby, Hakeem Brown and Dana Kirby, and siblings- Pete Rogers, Nancy Alston, Eddie and Norris Langston.
At an early age she was baptized and joined Penuel RZUA Church, Palmer Springs, VA. She attended the Mecklenburg County Public Schools.
In 1957 she moved to Brooklyn, NY where she spent most of her time.
Rachel was married to Charlie Brown and to this union three children were born. She later married to William Marcellus Kirby and to this union four children were born.
Rachel worked as a “Housekeeper” for many years until her health began to decline and later moved to North Carolina in 2020. She loved to cook and always talking about food.
Rachel leaves to cherish her memory: her three children- Lisa Brown, Rocky Mount, NC; Andre Kirby, Pikesville, MD and Andrea Kirby, Brooklyn, NY; a special daughter-in-law, Diane Martinez; 12 grandchildren- Shamel, Shanaya, Tammy, Clarice, Richard, and Lorenzo Brown; Nyesha Ellis, Darren Kirby, Taniqua, Divine, and Natural Life Brown, Shanelle Faison; 13 great-grandchildren- Amiyah,Ashley, Zamauri, ZaNiyah, ZyTavius, Zayvion, Breanna, Malachi, Mila, Delina, Aniya, Chloe, and Braylen; four sisters- Dorothy Russell, Newport News, VA; Carolyn Green, Boydton, VA; Elaine Moss, Manson, NC and Louise Wright, Wise, NC; one brother- Percell Langston, Boydton, VA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
