JAMES EARL WILLIAMS, son of the late Jerome and Willie Mae Williams was born August 10, 1953 in La Crosse, VA. God saw he was getting tired and welcomed him into the arms of Jesus Christ on August 29, 2022 at his home in Richmond, VA. He was preceded in death by his brothers- Jerome Williams, Jr. and Royal Williams and son- Nygel Williams.
Earl was converted at an early age and he was baptized at Pleasant Hill RZUA Church where he remained a member.
Earl attended Mecklenburg County Public Schools. He was very athletic and played baseball at East End High School. He also played softball with the Richfood All Stars. He loved all sports and would watch any games and his heart belonged to the San Francisco 49ers and the Atlanta Braves. Earl was an avid deer hunter. He was President of the Independent Hunt Club and after many years he stepped down and let the youngsters handle it. When winter came everyone knew that their car would stay broken down because he would take off for two months to enjoy hunting season. His hunting handle was “Hungry Jack”.
James Earl retired on March 9, 2017 from Richfood/SuperValu after diligently working 46 ½ years. He was the Maintenance Supervisor. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix as he was a jack of all trades. His greatest love was being a mechanic. Earl would work on anyone’s vehicle and talked trash while doing it. People loved bringing their cars to him because he was always honest and gave a fair price.
Earl loved his family and friends and would do anything for them within reason. He was the rock of the family; he had a quiet voice and stature, but when he spoke everyone knew he meant business. He loved talking to the men, especially giving advice to his nephews on having a strong work ethic and providing for their families. He enjoyed taking family vacations and traveling around the world.
After the death of his son Nygel, he stepped up to be the father figure for his grandson- Nykei. He enjoyed taking him to school and going on field trips, and the school loved him because he would help out and even tie shoes and wipe dirty noses. The kids called him Pa-Pa and the teachers would look for him to help out with the lunches and as a hall monitor.
Although his strength was waning down because of the dementia, he never faltered or showed outward signs of worry or distress. After a wonderful family vacation to Florida, his health began to fail by not eating or drinking. After being in the hospital for several days, Earl wanted to go home and be with family and friends to live out the remainder of his life here on Earth. Even though his memory was fading, his love for his “Old Lady” remained strong until the very end. His strength, kindness, and love will be a lasting memory in all of our hearts.
Earl leaves to cherish his memories a devoted wife and caregiver- Tia “Old Lady” Williams; two children- James (Marsha) Williams, Jr. and Shannon (Richard) Duncan all of Chesterfield, VA; five sisters- Gladys Jiggetts of St. Albany, NY; Delores Cypress, Belle Williams, Dorothy Baskerville Hawkins, Florence (Robert) Macklin all of Richmond, VA; one brother- Eugene (Alfreda) Williams of Richmond, VA; grandchildren- Daysha Williams, Amaya Williams, Richard Duncan II, Nykei Williams, and Bella Duncan all of Chesterfield, VA; devoted mother-in-law, Mary Thomas of LaCrosse, VA; one aunt- Alice Williams of Richmond, VA; devoted sisters-in-law, Eunice (Ricky) Wilson, Mary Lee (Rascal) Hatley, and Debbie Thompson; sister-in-law, Jacqueline Thomas; devoted nieces- Sylvia Adkins, LaShanna Hatley and Tiffany Wilson; devoted nephew- Corey Thomas; special cousins- Clarence Bey, Dennis King, Herbert Dean King, Charles Thompson Jr., Jimmy Lee Baskerville, and Darren Thompson; devoted caregiver- Evelyn Christian; devoted friends- Clyde Cook, Paul Cussak, Elmo Wright, Alphonso “Red” Harris, Preston and Cheryl Dickson, and Christopher Mercer; members of the Independent Hunting Club, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Asking ALL attendees to please wear a mask.
