Obituary For Dorothy Lee Abramson

GRAVESIDE SERVICE: Thursday, March 16, 2023 Westview East Cemetery, Halifax Street, South Hill, VA 23970 Rev. Sharon Baskerville, Officiating

DOROTHY LEE ABRAMSON was born to Jim McCaskill and Mary Jane McCaskill on September 24, 1938 until her passing on March 9, 2023. Dorothy was survived by her husband, Julian Abramson; her brother, LeeRoy; sister-in-law, Brenda; brother-in-law, Rocky; her eight children, Betty, Harold, Larry, Joseph, Virginia, Ronnie Sr., Carolyn, and Denise; her grandchildren, Kelly, Tara, Glennell, Blair, Tina, Terrell, Denise Jr., Latoya, Darrilyn, Noemi, Zuri, Ronnie Jr., Takia, Kiesha, Joseph Jr., Destiny, Skylar, Dashaun, Elijah, and Adrianne; host of great great grandchildren; host of nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Dorothy was a very head strong, hardworking, self-sufficient, loving trustworthy, fighter, and energetic person. She was the life of every event she attended. As a parent she ensured that her children understood four rules in life- “Never burn your bridges, don’t bite the hand that feeds you, sometimes the hard way is going to be a way to learn, and to be self-sufficient.”

Dorothy spent most of her life being a productive member of society by helping others. In the 70s, Dorothy volunteered to distribute free lunch to the families that required extra support feeding their families. In the 80s, Dorothy was employed as a child care provider to assist with raising children so their parents could return to work. In 2009, Dorothy decided to pursue a career as a nurse’s aide and obtained her GED. Dorothy then decided to work with the geriatric population, which she found her passion. Dorothy brought smiles on her patients’ faces when she came to work. The services she provided were genuine, patient, kind, and caring. Dorothy retired at the age of 72. Due to Dorothy’s sincerity and dedication to care for her patients, she was requested to return and continue to work as a per deim staff. Dorothy did not hesitate and continued to work until her health prevented her to do so.
