OBITUARY
DEACONESS YVONNE ELIZA FEGGINS JIGGETTS, daughter of the late George Washington and Jennie Baskerville Feggins, was born July 9, 1951 in Mecklenburg County, VA and departed this life suddenly November 17, 2023 in VCU-MCV Hospital, Richmond, VA. She was also preceded in death by her brothers- Woodrow Sonny Baskerville and Andrew Lee Feggins.
At an early age she was baptized in the Boswell Creek and joined Free Union RZUA Church, Bracey, VA under the leadership of the late Reverend G.W. Thompson. Yvonne was a member of the following Auxiliaries: Deaconess, The Chancel Choir, Secretary of the Sunday School, Secretary of the Missionaries, Secretary of the Senior Usher Board, Preparer of the Holy Communion, Assistant Clerk, Chairman of the Hospitality Committee. She was also responsible for getting the Ministers and choirs for annual Homecoming and Revival of the church. Yvonne was a former food server of the RZUA Missionary Convention, the Annual RZUA Conference, and The Young People’s Rising Zion Convention.
Yvonne attended the Mecklenburg County Public Schools and graduated from East End High School in 1969. She was a proud majorette of East End High School, stepping with those tall white boots on and twirling that baton to the beat of the band. After graduating, she went to Secretarial School in East Orange, NJ where she received her certification of being a Typist upon completion.
Yvonne met and fell in love with her classmate, Tyrone Powell Jiggetts. After completing high school they were united in Holy Matrimony on June 26, 1970 and to this union one son, Tyrone Maurice was born.
Yvonne had a love and green thumb for flowers and floral designs. She and her husband owned and operated Jiggetts Florist out of Feggins Funeral Home for many years. In which she was employed by her parents to work there after marriage and until her demise. She drove the flower van for the company. After that concluded, she started working for Archie’s Florist and Gifts for over 30 years until her retirement. She made sure her Mom’s flowers were repotted, place on the car porch in the spring and then the plants were taken back in the basement before the frost came. She would iron and switch out her curtains and decorate her dining room table to match the seasons. Then she would come on down to her Mom’s house and iron and hang her curtains, too.
Yvonne and Tyrone also owned and operated Jiggetts Limo Service. She also substituted as a Dietician with the Mecklenburg County school system, mainly at Park View Middle School.
Doing work in the church and the community was Yvonne’s passion, making sure everything was decent and in order. This passion she had was acquired from her mother, the late Mother Jennie A. Feggins. Her community involvements were Secretary of the Soul Gathering Club, member of A Select Few Social Club, Past Worthy Matron of Carnation Chapter #171 O.E.S., P.H.A. of VA.
Yvonne learned how to play piano while in high school being instructed by Mr. Bussy where she was taught along with her sister, Lillie, and other students.
Yvonne adored decorating her home for Christmas. She worked Tyrone and Maurice to the core, making sure they went in the attic to get those Christmas totes to bring down and hanging those lights inside and outside around the house, high up in the trees and evening putting Santa Clause on the roof at the chimney. She had it very festive for her family and friends to come and fellowship with them during the holidays and especially having Christmas dinner at Jiggetts Hill with her family. Yvonne loved, loved, loved her two granddaughters, Jabria and Tyronea. Whenever she would call and see how they were doing she would say, “Hey Boo Boo what you’re doing”. She loved spending time with them because she made Thursday nights Family night where it was just the immediate family having dinner and spending quality time together. God made it possible for her to cherish 2 months with her great granddaughter, baby Drew. Yvonne enjoyed “The Boys” to stop by and socialize because they told her she was one of them...tough as they are.
Yvonne was an avid Pittsburg Steelers fan. Her favorite color was Yellow. She didn’t take no mess off of anyone, what she said, was what she meant. Some of her favorite sayings were: “Family is All We Got,” “I Love My Family,” “Yes Indeed”, “Well dam sam”, and “This ain’t no time for no dumb stuff, have some sense” and if food came through while she was serving and it didn’t looked right to her, she would say “File 13”. She adored swing dancing with her husband in which they have won several 1st place prizes.
