DEACONESS ELLA MAE JIGGETTS IVY, daughter of the late Matthew and the late Viola Jones Jiggetts, was born January 10, 1941 in Mecklenburg County, VA and departed this life September 4, 2023 in VCU-MCV Hospital, Richmond, VA. She was also preceded in death by her siblings: General Douglas McArthur Jiggetts, Melvina J. Smith, Bobby Lee, Geraldine, Larry Wendell, and Melvin Jiggetts.
At an early age she was baptized and joined Lombardy Grove Baptist Church. Ella attended East End High School. She later moved to New Jersey where she lived with her cousin Edna Jiggetts for a little while.
Ella later met and married the late Robert Ivy in 1964 and to this union a son, Timothy was born; who also preceded her in death.
Ella was employed at Madaline's Department Store in New Jersey as a salesperson for many years. After semi-retirement, she moved back to Virginia in 1994. She reaffirmed her membership with Lombardy Grove Baptist Church where she was a member of the Deaconess Board, the Missionary and the Usher Board. Ella was also active in her community, where she has been a member of The Sisters of Faith Society, South Hill, VA for over nineteen years where “they walked by faith and not by sight.”
Ella was a very active person, willing to do what she could for her family and friends. She wore a smile on her face at all times and she had a contagious laugh that made you laugh along with her.
Ella leaves to cherish her memory: two grandchildren- Chatia Coleman of Jersey City, NJ and Timothy Ivy, Jr. of Richmond, VA; nine great-grandchildren; one brother- Ralph (Grace) Jiggetts of Gastonia, NC; a sister-in-law, Telvin Ivy of South Jersey, NJ; devoted friends and cousins- Henry Clayton, Beatrice Hayes, Shandra Jiggetts- whom she called “my girl”, Patricia Ann Jiggetts and Bobby Jiggetts, a special niece- Vernell Smith, and a host of other nieces, nephews, other cousins and friends.
