DEACON SIRLEY LEWIS HITE, son of the late Jessie J. and Inez Hicks Hite was born June 25, 1927 in Mecklenburg County, VA and departed this life February 14, 2021 at W.S. Hundley Annex, South Hill, VA.

He attended M M Booker School, LaCrosse, VA and Booker T. School, Norfolk, VA and training at the Robert Park School for U.S. Navy Base.

Sirley was employed at Little Creek Amphibian Base, Norfolk, VA from January 23, 1946 and retired on September 2, 1982. He also did catering for weddings, church functions and etc. for twelve years.

Sirley met the love of his life, Jean Hansard in August of 1951 at a funeral at Union Hill Church and later married her on November 24, 1951.

In 1983 they moved back to South Hill, VA to make it their home. He later became a Deacon at Bloom Hill Baptist church where he served faithfully, financially and spiritually.

The love of his life, Jean, was called to her heavenly home on May 11, 2017.

Sirley was employed by Montague Hardware, South Hill, VA from 1987 until he finally retired from working October 8, 2020. He leaves to cherish his memory are his two sisters- Sarah Johnson, Kenbridge, VA and Lucy Jones, Brodnax, VA; two brothers- Fred (Florence) Hite, Brodnax, VA and Dennis Hite, Phillipsburg, NJ; three sisters-in-law, Bessie Dortch, Philadelphia, PA; Norvel Evans, Boydton, VA, and Patricia H. Williams, Bracey, VA; two brothers-in-law- Douglas (Barbara) Hansard, South Hill, VA and Dwight (Shannon) Hansard, Wilmington, NC; devoted friend and employer- Paul Duffer and Family, South Hill, VA; numerous children who stayed with them while attending college, and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
