MOTHER BERNISA DOUGLAS MOORE, affectionately called “Bea,” daughter of the late Lee and Irene Sturdivant Douglas was born June 2, 1950 in Richmond, VA and quietly departed this life February 7, 2023 at her daughter’s residence in South Hill, VA surrounded by her loved ones. She was also preceded in death by her siblings- Loretha Baskerville and Henry Lee Douglas, and three brothers-in-law, Roger and Thomas Moore and Robert “Bo” Baskerville.
She attended East End High School.
At an early age she was baptized and joined Mt. Zion Holiness Church under the leadership of the late Bishop W.G. Pitts and later New Life Apostolic Holiness Church under the pastorship of Apostle Elizabeth Bagley. There she was a Missionary and a Sunday School Teacher. Mother Bea also was the nurse for Apostle Bagley for many years. She loved to sew; she enjoyed making face-cloths for her pastor. Mother Moore later moved her membership to Elnora Jarrell Worship Center in Emporia, VA where she served on the Mother’s Board until her death.
Bernisa was married to the late Franklin B. Moore and to this union three children were born.
She was employed in the garment industry where she worked at Craddock Terry, Lawrenceville, VA; Aileen, South Hill, VA; Virginia Quilting, LaCrosse, VA and lastly Jones Apparel until her retirement.
After retirement Bea enjoyed attending sporting events where her sons and grand children were involved, especially the football games. She also spent her time from 12:30 PM-4:00 PM watching her soap operas in which General Hospital was her favorite. She was addressed as “Ma Bea” by plenty of people.
She leaves to cherish her memories are her three children- Frances Hayes (Gerald) and Jermaine Moore, all of South Hill, VA and Tromaine Moore of Emporia, VA; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; Godsons- Robert (Viola) Sturdivant, Richmond, VA and Benjamin Coleman, Dallas, TX; Goddaughter- Lucy M. White, Richmond, VA; one sister- Daisy (Morris) Boone, Richmond, VA; two sisters-in-law, devoted Iris Moore, LaCrosse, VA and Geraldine Moore, South Boston, VA; brother-in-law, Lawrence (Monica) Moore, Bowie, MD; special friend- Rosa Thomas, Norman, OK; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
