MR. BENNIE HARRIS, SR, son of the late Raven and Catherine Walker Harris was born April 23, 1935, in Richmond, VA and departed this life August 14, 2023 in Youngsville, NC.
At an early age he was baptized and joined William Grove RZUA Church. He was a graduate of the former East End High School. After graduation he enlisted into the U.S. Army.
On February 28, 1958 he married the late Betty Jean Walker and to this union two sons were born. Their son, Archie, preceded them in death.
Bennie later moved to East Orange, NJ. He was employed as a Longshoreman for the Port of Newark until his retirement. After retirement they moved back to Virginia.
Bennie leaves to mourn: his son- Bennie Gene Harris of Riverdale, GA; two grandchildren- Alanda Roshonna Harris and Brandon Michael Harris; two great-grandchildren- Enyah Hayes and Brooklyn Smith; brother- Freddie Harris of Union, NJ; sister-in-law, Gertha Mae Pulliam of NJ; two brothers-in-law, Rev. Daniel W. Thomas, Jr. of Tennille, GA and Samuel K. Thomas of London, England, and a host of other relatives and friends.
